Body Neutral Fitness: Why do we do things differently

The fitness industry can be a funny place. I have been in it for over 30 years and it never ceases to amaze and shock me at the same time.
Our lives are now entwined with Social Media, and scroll through it and you'll often be told and shown that fitness looks a certain way.
That instructors should have six-packs, perfectly toned arms, and look like they've stepped straight out of a fitness magazine. That *insert trend is the current ideal way to look.
You'll be sold detoxes, miracle diets, Magic tea and coffee "summer body" plans, weight loss medications and promises of dramatic transformations in just a few weeks.
That your workout needs to be this or that, that a good run time is this or that, a good deadlift weight is your body weight
THAT'S NOT WHO I AM, ITS NOT B-FIT
Yes, I will hold my hand up to say in the past I've done those things, they make money, they get those photo shots.. that apparently without, makes you a SHIT trainer. But along the way I changed.
Many years ago now I made the decision NOT to offer plans, weight loss or to include that in any sales pitch, because I reflected on WHY I chose this career path, and that was to share my the joy of movement, Not to make people shrink to fit. Not to keep people on the money making hamster wheel the health and fitness industry gets people on and watches as they yoyo round and round rubbing their hands with money.
Its not right, its not OK its not ethical and its NOT ME.
At B-Fit we're proudly body neutral, Movement based, and that applies not just to our participants, but to our instructors too.
We dont place stats on classes or expect anything other than movement our members feel happy with.
Real People. Real Bodies.
Here at B-Fit all our instructors look like real people. They reflect the average person juggling life, rather than living through a social media filter, popping endless things, missing meals and life to look a certain way.
I'm short, Emma is taller. I'm curvy, menopausal and old , Emma and Kylie are young. Emma is toned and loves a burpee, Kylie can dance and throw moves. We are all different, all unique, all the average person.
I have years of experience and wisdom, the younger ones bring new ideas and freshness.
The thing we all have in common, we all move our bodies, we exercise not to look a way but because it brings us joy.
A good instructor has nothing to do with looks.
It's measured by their knowledge, experience, empathy, coaching ability, and their ability to make people feel welcome, supported, and capable.
The best coach in the room isn't always the leanest one.
The best instructor isn't always the one with the "perfect" body.
Sometimes it's the one who understands what it's like to start from scratch. The one who has overcome challenges themselves. The one who can adapt an exercise when you're struggling. The one who genuinely cares about helping people move well and feel better.
Why B-Fit Is Body Neutral and movement based
You'll rarely hear us talking about "earning your dinner", "working off the weekend","getting bikini ready" or that weeks weight loss.
We dont sell classes by calorie burn or for weightloss.
You won't be pressured into buying diet plans, detox teas, fat-burning supplements, meal replacement shakes, or the latest quick-fix programme.
Many people come to class wanting to lose weight, gain strength, improve fitness, manage menopause symptoms, boost confidence, or simply get out of the house and meet people. All of those goals are valid and OK to have.
But our focus is on helping you enjoy movement, get stronger, healthier, happier and reap the benefits of regular movement for the body.
We celebrate:
✅ Showing up
✅ Moving regularly
✅ Getting stronger
✅ Improving balance and mobility
✅ Building confidence
✅ Supporting mental well being
✅ Having fun
We know health is about so much more than calories, scales, and dress sizes.
It's about strength.
It's about confidence.
It's about energy.
It's about mental wellbeing.
It's about community.
And sometimes it's simply about having an hour where you can switch off from the stresses of everyday life.
Many people come to exercise carrying years of messages telling them they're not enough.
Not fit enough.
Not slim enough.
Not strong enough.
Not confident enough.
We don't buy into that.
What You Will Find at a B-Fit class
You'll find instructors who genuinely care.
You'll find classes that can be adapted for different abilities and fitness levels.
You'll find encouragement, not judgement.
You'll find laughter.
You'll find support.
And you'll find a community full of people who are showing up to move their bodies because it makes them feel good, not because they hate how they look.
Members AND Instructors
Because instructors deserve the same kindness and respect we offer our participants.
We are human too.
We have good days and bad days.
We age.
We go through menopause.
We get injured.
We have families, jobs, worries, stresses, and challenges.
And none of those things make us any less capable of helping others improve their health and well being.
Our Promise
At B-Fit, we will never judge your body.
We won't expect you to look a certain way.
We won't sell you a miracle.
We won't tell you your value is tied to your weight.
We won't pressure you to do a class, a movement or to even follow us.
We won't tell you to keep up,
What we will do is help you move safely, build confidence, improve your fitness, get stronger, make friends, support your well being, and hopefully have a little fun along the way.
Safe space, judgement free and pressure free ALWAYS
Because fitness should be about living your life better, not spending your life trying to make your body smaller or making you feel rubbish for not doing something right.
And that's something worth celebrating
I read a post that touched me today
It was a simple post that said what if the health and wellness industry have it wrong
We are immersing people in wellness, obsessively tracking sleep scores instead of tuning in to our body, making meals like maths equations, checking the calorie burn of a class, the stats on a watch, the pace of a run instead of just ENJOYING the activity, always trying to improve ourselves, hacks podcasts, pills, trends, ice baths.. whatever
BUT maybe people DON'T need fixing as much as we are leading them to believe
Living a healthy life is easier than we are selling
Strong relationships, a sense of belonging and purpose, Laughter and fun, regular movement and wholesome food. Because in old age no one is remembering their protein intake, sleep score or a brutal workout. They are remembering the people they shared moments and laughter with, meals and good times shared along the way.
Lets not over complicate movement, lets not place a metric or result on it other than JOY and gratitude that we are able to exercise.
